I had the great fortune working with amazing photographs, all taken by Larry Lampman, the site owner, at his farm. The photo galleries, in fact, were set up using a clever adaptation of Zen Cart’s additional images that I discovered by reading and following an example in the Zen Cart Forum. Fox Hill Farm accepts checks and money orders for online orders at this time.

The goal in redeveloping the site was to gain the functionality that Zen Cart offers, but keep the same look and feel, originally designed by w3sights several years ago. This meant some customized programming in Zen Cart! Now Littlefield Bee Farm has the ability to update the site themselves and they can take advantage of some helpful shopping cart features such as tracking order status with emails to customers and reporting. The next step is to interface Zen Cart with Quickbooks so that data is exchanged between the two systems automatically.

From Grace Bishoff, shepardess and web site owner of redbarnfarm.us: “I have to tell you that having this beautiful web site with ZenCart has been a blessing. Since I added the meat price list, I have been getting orders online! Also, I can refer customers to the site to put through credit card orders. It has worked really well for the blankets (even the custom orders) and the meat. The PayPal process ensures I can get the funds in my account within 48 hours which helps tremendously with cash flow. Currently, the mill (for the blankets) and I (for the meats) are usually shipping within 48 hours so it is reassuring to have the funds in hand as we ship the merchandise.

I feel better going beyond the holiday season to have the online shopping available for customers who want to purchase meat and blankets even though I don’t see them at the weekly markets. Local customers can put in a cc order online and we can work out the delivery/pick up of the product by the time the order clears the bank. Now when I get email and phone inquiries, I can refer them to the website to follow up with their order. I add custom products for special order requests. I can leave return messages with would-be customers that enable to complete their transaction on line without having to play phone tag. It helps me close the sale on what were just inquiries in the past.

So, I am saying thank you so much for making this possible for me. It is a whole new way of doing business that works extremely well for me. It gives me the flexibility I need as a small business to process orders online, track them, and accept credit card payments. It is also very easy to handle special requests. I am able to quickly integrate the new technology for order processing and customer communication into my business flow. It helps me handle my customers with a level of professionalism that a small family farm rarely is able to deliver.”
